Writing Against Hunger
West Side Campaign Against Hunger’s (WSCAH) writing contest invites young writers (ages 10 to 18) to share poetry and essay submissions about the ongoing hunger crisis in the United States today.
The food we eat nourishes our bodies and minds, but that’s just the beginning of the essential role cooking and eating play in our lives. Consider the importance of food - how does food connect to memory, culture, and family? How can writing and thinking about the significance of food strengthen us and our communities? What happens when we or members of our community don’t have enough food, can’t afford food, or can’t access the healthy food we need? Why is it that one of the wealthiest nations on this planet continues to have millions of its citizens living without food security?
Age Categories: 10-12 years old, 13-15 years old, 16-18 years old
